USTR Announces Changes to Certain Section 301 Tariffs on EU Goods
On October 3, 2019, FHK sent a trade alert advising that a determination was made allowing the U.S. to impose up to $7.5 billion annually in countermeasure against the EU due to subsidies provided to the aircraft manufacturer, Airbus.
On Friday, February 14, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) announced additional modifications to the Section 301 tariffs with effective dates of March 5, and March 18.
Effective March 18, on or after 12:01 a.m. EDT with respect to goods entered or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, the additional tariff on aircraft will be increased from 10% to 15%.
Effective March 5, a 25% additional tariff will be applied to butchers' or kitchen shipping or mincing knives (HTSUS 8214.90.60) from France and Germany as well as telescopic sights for rifles not designed for use with infrared light (HTSUS 9013.10.10) from Germany. Also effective March 5, prune juice (HTSUS 2009.89.40) will no longer be subject to the 25% additional tariff.
A proposal by USTR to increase these tariffs to as much as 100 percent was set aside at this time.
FHK will continue to follow these matters to keep you informed and as always, be sure to contact us with any questions
