NEW ALUMINUM IMPORT LICENSING REQUIREMENT SCHEDULED TO BEGIN JUNE 28, 2021
On December 23, 2020, the U.S. Department of Commerce adopted the Aluminum Import Monitoring System (AIM) which consists of an online aluminum import license application platform and public AIM monitor that was originally scheduled to begin on January 25, 2021. After some delays, the U.S. Department of Commerce has released a final rule in the Federal Register 2021-10747.pdf (govinfo.gov) stating that AIM will go into effect on June 28, 2021.
The licensing requirement applies to “basic aluminum products” under the following HTS codes aluminum products HTS codes (trade.gov).
