Guidance for Unknown Country of Smelt & Cast
The updated CBP guidance, CSMS# 65340246, clarifies how importers should report the country of smelt and cast for derivative aluminum imports subject to Section 232 measures.
Effective June 28, 2025, if the country of smelt and/or cast is unknown, importers must report "unknown" instead of an ISO code. Additionally, they must use HTS 9903.85.67 or 9903.85.68, depending on applicability, and will face a 200 percent duty.
