UNION PACIFIC SUSPENDS INBOUND CONTAINER
SHIPMENTS TO CHICAGO FOR UP TO A WEEK
SHIPMENTS TO CHICAGO FOR UP TO A WEEK
Adding to the existing delays in the movement of cargo, Union Pacific has announced that it will halt all shipments of international containers from the West Coast to Chicago for up to a week, beginning Sunday, July 18.
This step is being taken to try to ease the container backlog which is due in part to labor shortages and pandemic-related restrictions that have slowed loading and unloading of containers at customer facilities, leading to a shortage of chassis and drayage capacity during a period of high demand.
