Update on Additional Duties for Canadian Imports – Effective August 1, 2025
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued updated guidance under CSMS #65798609 regarding additional duties on imports from Canada, pursuant to Executive Order 14193 and its amendments.

Key Updates:
- New Duty Rate: Most Canadian-origin goods will now face a 35% additional ad valorem duty under HTSUS 9903.01.10. This replaces the previous 25% duty rate.
- Transshipped Goods: Products determined by CBP to have been transshipped to evade duties will be subject to a 40% duty under HTSUS 9903.01.16
- Exemptions: Certain HTSUS headings (9903.01.11–.15) and personal-use items in accompanied baggage are excluded.
