USTR Issues Revised List of EU Products in Large Civil Aircraft (LCA) Dispute
On October 18, 2019 the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) imposed Section 301 tariffs on certain members of the European Union in response to the EU's subsidizing Airbus, to the tune of $7.5 billion worth of goods.
In June of this year, the USTR published a notice that included a proposal to impose additional duties of up to 100 percent on a new list of products of France, Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom, covered by 30 tariff subheadings with an approximate annual trade value of $3.1 billion.
On August 18, 2020 the USTR published a revised list of EU goods subject to additional duties effective September 1, 2020. The tariff rates remain unchanged at 15% for aircraft and 25% for all other products. The annual trade value of the tariff subheadings subject to additional duties under the revised action remains at approximately $7.5 billion. These modest changes are consistent with the WTO's findings on the appropriate level of countermeasures.
