SHIPPING LINES HALT PASSAGE THROUGH THE RED SEA
Concerns over escalating attacks on container ships are causing major ocean carriers to suspend operations and halt vessels from entering the Red Sea. Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd suspended operations through the Bab El-Mandeb Strait following attacks by the Houthis, a Yemen-based militia who claimed responsibility. At least five vessels have been attacked, though no injuries have been reported.
Mediterranean Shipment Company (MSC), CMA CGM, OOCL, HMM, Evergreen and Yang Ming, will follow suit. Be prepared for these diversions to create shipping delays and expect prices for container shipments to rise soon.
