International Longshoreman’s Association Strike?
International Longshoreman’s Association Strike?
Following the ILA strike from October 1-3, 2024 and the tentative agreement that ensued, the clock is ticking once again, with just under one month for the two sides to reach an agreement and end the impasse.
The deadline of January 15, 2025 for the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA), representing the dockworkers, and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) who represent the ports, to avoid another strike is rapidly approaching. A partial agreement had been reached which included a 61% wage increase over the life of the contract, as well as a 90 day extension to continue their talks on automation. Currently, the two sides appear to be in a deadlock over issues on technology, automation and modernization remain unresolved.
