NEW ALUMINUM IMPORT LICENSING REQUIREMENT BEGINS MONDAY, MARCH 29th
On December 23, 2020, the U.S. Department of Commerce published a final rule in the Federal Register 2020-28166.pdf (govinfo.gov) adopting the Aluminum Import Monitoring and Analysis (AIM) system. This website consists of an online aluminum import license application platform and public AIM monitor that was originally scheduled to begin on January 25, 2021. It was delayed following a “Regulatory Freeze Pending Review” to allow the current Administration time to review the final rule and to consider any additional comments before implementation.
This delay meant that licenses would not be required for covered aluminum product imports beginning on January 25, 2021 as the deadline was extended to March 29, 2021. Click here to read the FHK Trade Alert.
This final rule will now go into effect beginning Monday, and licenses will be required for entries of covered aluminum products. Here is a link to the HTS codes aluminum products HTS codes (trade.gov).
The Aluminum License Worksheet is the template we will use to gather the required data elements to obtain a bond on the importer behalf.
